Listing Rules for Model Plane Zone (MPZ)

These Listing Rules are part of our Seller Terms. They explain what you may sell on MPZ and how to list it. When you list an item, you agree to follow them.

In these rules, "we", "us" and "MPZ" mean Model Plane Zone. "You" means the seller. A "buyer" is the person who buys an item.

1. What you can sell on MPZ

MPZ is a marketplace for model aviation. You can list:

  • diecast and resin model aircraft;
  • plastic and other model kits of aircraft;
  • decals, display stands, parts and accessories for models;
  • tools, paints and supplies for model building, within the limits in sections 5 and 6;
  • aviation collectibles related to models.

Aviation memorabilia and parts from retired aircraft sold as collectibles (for example a cabin door, a seat, a placard or a cockpit instrument) are not the core of MPZ yet. We allow them case by case for now and plan a separate category for them. Ask us before you list one, and describe it clearly as a collectible that is not for use on an aircraft.

These rules give examples, not a complete list. We decide what fits MPZ. We may remove or hide any listing at any time if we think it does not suit the site, even if it does not break a specific rule, and we tell you why. If you are not sure whether you can list something, ask us first.

2. The basics

Every listing must be:

  • Honest: it describes the real item you are selling.
  • Complete: it gives buyers the information they need to decide.
  • Lawful: it follows EU and Dutch law and the law of the buyer's country.
  • Not misleading: the title, photos and description match the item.
  • Available: you have the item and can send it.

Photos. Use your own photos of the actual item you are selling. Do not use photos taken by someone else, including manufacturer, shop or stock photos, even with permission. List Assist fills in text details only, never photos. One exception: business sellers listing a brand-new, unopened item may use the manufacturer's official product images, if they are allowed to use them and the item they send is exactly the one shown. Any fault, difference or damaged box must still be shown in your own photos. Never use photos that hide faults.

One listing per item. If you have several of the same item, use the quantity field instead of making duplicate listings. Keep the quantity correct, and end the listing as soon as the item is sold elsewhere or no longer available.

List Assist. When details are filled in automatically from MPZ's model database, check them and correct anything that does not match your item. You remain responsible for the listing.

3. Required details

Fill in the listing form correctly, in particular:

  • Condition: choose the grade that fits (Brand New, Mint in Box, Good, Used, or Spares and Repairs) and tick any caveat that applies (missing parts, damaged, no original box, wrong box).
  • Item details: scale, manufacturer, item code, aircraft type, operator or livery and registration, where relevant. Choose aircraft type and operator from our lists so buyers can find your item.
  • Category: the category that matches the item.
  • Parcel size: the size (S to XXL) that the packed item really fits. If the parcel turns out bigger or heavier, the carrier may charge extra, and we may pass that cost on to you.
  • Price and quantity.

4. Describe condition honestly

This is a collectors' marketplace. Describe condition in the detail collectors expect. Tell buyers about anything that matters, for example:

  • damage, missing parts or missing accessories;
  • repairs, modifications, repainting or custom work;
  • yellowing, glue marks, decal problems, broken or fragile parts, or non-original parts;
  • the condition of the box and packaging, or a missing or wrong box;
  • missing certificates or manuals;
  • smoke or pet exposure.

Only use words like "rare", "limited", "mint", "new", "sealed", "original" or "authentic" when they are true. Do not make claims about rarity, authenticity, history or value that you cannot support.

5. Items you must not list

You must never list:

  • counterfeit or fake items, or copies presented as genuine;
  • stolen goods, or items you do not own or have no right to sell;
  • items that infringe someone's intellectual property, such as unlicensed reproductions, or copied logos, decals, photos or text;
  • unsafe items, and products that have been recalled or appear in the EU Safety Gate alerts;
  • real weapons, ammunition, explosives or military ordnance, including inert, deactivated or "made safe" items, ejection seat cartridges and pyrotechnics;
  • replica or imitation firearms, airsoft guns and realistic imitation weapons;
  • aircraft parts that are still certified for use on an aircraft, or that are subject to export control. Parts from retired aircraft may be sold as collectibles only if the listing says they are not for aircraft use (see section 1);
  • aerosols, fuels, loose lithium batteries, and other dangerous goods that carriers do not accept;
  • items containing asbestos;
  • items whose sale breaks EU sanctions;
  • extremist, hateful or adult content, and stand-alone flags, badges, uniforms, insignia or propaganda items of the Nazi period or of other banned organisations. Scale models, kits, decals and their boxes may carry historically accurate national and unit markings, but do not put such symbols in the listing title, and mask or leave out of your photos any symbol that is banned in Germany or Austria (such as the swastika), because listings are visible there;
  • anything else that is illegal under EU or Dutch law.

6. Items you may list only with care

These items are allowed only if you describe them correctly and follow the rules that apply:

  • Paints, glues and thinners. Only in small, closed, original containers with the hazard labels intact, and only if the carrier for your shipping option accepts them. Most parcel carriers do not accept flammable liquids, so check before you list. If you post the item yourself, you are responsible for following the carrier's rules.
  • Items with batteries (for example lit display models or radio-controlled models). Only with the batteries fitted in the item, and only if the carrier accepts them. Say clearly in the listing that the item contains batteries.
  • Radio-controlled models. Only without fuel. Remove all fuel before sending.
  • Replicas, repaints, custom builds and non-original items. Say clearly what they are. Never present them as genuine, original or factory condition.
  • Vintage items with old paint or coatings. Say so clearly. Old paints may contain lead, so never present them as suitable for children.

If a carrier refuses, fines or surcharges a parcel because of its contents, you bear that cost.

7. Collector models are not toys

Most diecast models and kits on MPZ are detailed scale models made for adult collectors. Under EU toy safety rules, detailed scale models and kits intended for collectors aged 14 and over are not toys, provided the item or its packaging says so. Do not describe them as toys or as suitable for children.

If you sell an item that is meant for children to play with, it must meet the toy safety rules, including the CE marking and the warnings that apply.

8. Prices, sales and discounts

  • The minimum price for any item is EUR 2.50. This also applies to sale prices and offers. Coupons and bundle discounts are capped so that no item goes below EUR 2.50.
  • Show the real price. Do not add charges outside checkout and do not set prices to avoid our fees.
  • You can run sales, coupons and bundle discounts. A coupon and a bundle discount do not stack: the buyer gets the better one.
  • If you accept an offer, you must honour the sale at that price while the offer is valid.
  • Business sellers: your prices must be total prices including VAT. When you show a reduced price, the "before" price must be the lowest price you charged for that item in the 30 days before the reduction.

9. Listing practices that are not allowed

Do not:

  • make duplicate or near-duplicate listings for the same item;
  • use keyword spam, such as brand or model names that do not match the item;
  • put an item in the wrong category;
  • use misleading titles or photos;
  • make rarity, authenticity or value claims you cannot support;
  • put email addresses, phone numbers, web links (other than to modelplanezone.nl) or payment details in listings, photos or your store description. Business sellers give the contact details the law requires in the store profile fields provided for them, not in listings;
  • try to move a sale off MPZ;
  • list items you do not have or cannot send.

10. Brand names and intellectual property

You may use brand names, airline names and model names (for example Herpa, Corgi, Gemini Jets, Revell or KLM) to describe a genuine item you are selling. Do not use them for items that are not that brand, and do not use other people's logos as your own branding.

Only use photos and texts you made yourself or are allowed to use. Do not copy other sellers' photos or descriptions. Do not sell unlicensed reproductions of models, decals or branding.

If we receive a valid notice that your listing infringes someone's rights, we remove it and tell you why. If you repeatedly list infringing items, we may close your store.

11. Extra rules for business sellers

If you sell as a business, you must also:

  • give buyers, before they buy, the information consumer law requires: your identity, address, email and phone number, the total price including VAT and delivery costs, and the 14-day right of withdrawal and how to use it;
  • for every product you sell, new or second-hand (antiques and collectors' items of historical significance excepted), include in the listing what the EU General Product Safety Regulation requires: the manufacturer's name, postal address and email, the EU responsible person if the manufacturer is outside the EU, the information identifying the product (type, batch or serial number) and any warnings or safety information, in a language the buyer understands. Use the product safety fields in the listing form, or, until those are available, the listing description;
  • follow the price rules in section 8.

12. Reporting a listing

Anyone can tell us about a listing they believe is illegal or breaks these rules. Use the "Report" button on the listing, or email support@modelplanezone.nl if you do not have an account.

A useful report says which listing it is (the link), why you think it is illegal or breaks our rules, your name and email address, and that you believe in good faith that what you tell us is accurate and complete. If you report an infringement of your intellectual property, tell us which right is infringed and that you are the owner or act for the owner. We confirm that we received your report, and we tell you what we decided. We handle reports about unsafe products within three working days.

13. How we check listings

Listings go live straight away. We do not check every listing first. We look at listings that are reported, and we may check any listing at any time. A person reviews every report and makes every decision about a listing. Our automatic message filter (see the Seller Terms) does not remove listings.

14. If a listing breaks these rules

If a listing breaks these rules or the law, or does not suit MPZ (section 1), we may ask you to change it, hide or remove it, edit it to remove the problem, or limit your selling. For serious or repeated breaches, we may suspend or close your store, as set out in the Seller Terms.

We act in proportion to the problem. For most problems we first ask you to fix the listing. We act straight away only for illegal, unsafe or infringing items, fraud, or where the law requires it.

Whenever we hide, remove or restrict a listing, we email you a statement of reasons: what we did, why, which rule or law it is based on, whether we used automated tools, and how to ask us to look again. You can ask us to review any decision at support@modelplanezone.nl. It is free, and we aim to reply within 14 days. You can also take the matter to court.

15. Changes to these rules

We may update these rules, for example when the law changes or new problems appear. We tell you at least 15 days before a change takes effect, as the Seller Terms explain. We may act on illegal items straight away, whatever these rules say.
